Lab Updates From Strategic Communications

Update of Status of PG&E Power Shut Down

November 19, 2019

Dear LBNL Colleagues,

The Lab is continuing to prepare for a PG&E Public Safety Power Shutdown (PSPS) as outlined in the Level One message yesterday in the absence of formal notice from PG&E. We will continue with the shutdown preparations until we hear different information from PG&E.

We received informal notice yesterday that PG&E will shut off power as early as 6:00 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20, as part of their PSPS. In order to prepare the site, the Lab will be closed to all except emergency-essential personnel today, Tuesday, Nov. 19 as of 3 p.m.

Here is some important information:

  • Please coordinate a time to leave the Lab with your supervisor so we do not have a back up on the roads leaving at 3:00 p.m.

  • Rockridge and North Berkeley shuttles will start running at noon. The Upper Hill shuttle will begin running at 1 p.m. All shuttles EXCEPT Potter will cease operation at 3 p.m. Potter will continue to run between Downtown Berkeley BART and our off-site locations on its regular schedule through the rest of the day and during the PSPS.

  • The cafeteria will have minimal lunch service, and the coffee bar and the cafeteria will close at 1:00 p.m.

  • Release your time before leaving work today if you work on the Lab’s main site.

You can stay informed by checking for updates on status.lbl.gov, at 1-800-445-5830, and on a new Twitter account for Lab staff, users, and others: @LBNLstatus.

We will continue to keep you informed.   We know that a shutdown is disruptive and appreciate your patience and understanding as we prepare the Lab.

Michael Brandt

Deputy Director, Operations and

Chief Operating Officer
