Information about the annual LBNL holiday closure

Dear colleagues,

The Lab will close for the annual holiday break starting Tuesday, Dec. 24, and will re-open on Thursday, Jan. 2. During the closure, Operations will be working on a modified schedule.  The following is information about services for you to keep in mind as you prepare for and return from the holidays.

  • Shuttle Service – Shuttles will run on their regular schedule on Monday, Dec. 23 until 5 p.m. Beginning at 5 p.m., the Blue route will reduce to two shuttles and continue operations until 9 p.m. The other lines will have one operational shuttle and provide service as usual as follows: Orange and Rockridge shuttles will operate until 7 p.m., Potter Street will run until 7:20 p.m., and North Berkeley until 7:30 p.m. Shuttles will not run during the holiday closure and will resume normal operations on Thursday, Jan. 2.

  • Cafeteria – The cafeteria and coffee bar will close at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 23, and will reopen Thursday, Jan. 2. at 6:30 a.m.

  • Badge Office – The badge office will be closed all day on Monday, Dec. 23, and re-open on Jan. 2.

  • Site Access – Dec. 24 to Jan.1, Site Access will follow its normal off-hour access procedure:

    • Blackberry Gate will be the only gate for entering the Lab. You can exit via Blackberry or Grizzly Gates.

    • To enter the site, you must show your LBNL badge at Blackberry Gate, or have your name on the approved access list along with a government-issued ID such as a driver’s license or passport. Your LBNL parking placard will not be acceptable for site access during the annual holiday closure.

    • Buildings will also be on an off-hour schedule, so you will need your badge to access your building.

    • If you have any site or building access problems, contact the Lab’s Site Operations Center on x6999 or 1-510-486-6999.

  • Guest House – Guests must check out by 11 a.m. on Dec. 24. The Guest House will close at 11:30 a.m. Dec. 24 and re-open for check-in on Jan. 2 at 3 p.m.

  • Shipping and Receiving – Receiving will close at 3:30 p.m. and shipping and mail services at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 23, and will re-open on Thursday, Jan. 2.

  • Facilities – Teams will be completing scheduled preventive maintenance during the winter break.

    • HVAC and lighting systems will be on off-hour settings to conserve energy.

    • Normal operating temperatures will be maintained for all cold rooms, server rooms, and computer rooms.

    • Building rounds will be performed three times per day.

When you leave, please do the following to help conserve energy:

  • Power off computers, monitors, peripherals, power strips, and any non-essential equipment.

  • Shut fume hood sashes.

  • Turn off the lights.

  • Close doors and windows.

Please empty perishables out of breakroom refrigerators.
