Inspired by the “friendly competition” among facilities and areas to raise money for local food banks, Berkeley Lab, through the Government and Community Relations Office, will donate $10,000 to the Alameda County Community Food Bank.
“I commend all of the Berkeley Lab employees who have supported – and plan to support – the effort to raise funds for the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano and the Alameda County Community Food Bank,” said Lab Director Mike Witherell. “At the end of the day, we are all in this together, and I am proud to be the Director of a Lab that is so committed to the well-being of our community.”
With the institutional donation, ACCFB will be able to purchase and distribute more than 23,000 meals in the East Bay communities they serve. Bay Area food banks provide an essential service for the most vulnerable members of our communities, and every dollar donated helps provide $7 worth of food. Several teams at the Lab kicked off the food bank fundraising challenge with the goal to bring help to our communities. The Lab teams are in the final days of their fundraising, with the challenge closing May 8. Here are the current standings as of May 2, 2020, and the links to donate in support of each of the teams.
