Shuttle driver Benjamin Martinez and his wife closed their dental office in Mexico and came to the US in 2009. After a month of job-hunting, he was hired by MV Transportation the same day he applied. He enjoys spending time with the family, and is an avid fisherman who also loves model trains.
Q:How did you get started in driving a commercial vehicle?
A: My wife and I I came to the United States in March 2009 and moved to California because my wife has an uncle that lives here. I looked for work for more than a month and then applied at MV Transportation. I received a call the same day I applied, and started my training right away. That was April of 2009, and I’ve been driving here at the Lab since then.
Q: Tell us the best tip you have ever gotten from a fellow driver.
A: It probably came from my trainer at MV. He taught us to control the situation, not to stress or worry about lost time, because the goal is to get your passengers and vehicle to the destination safely.
Q: What is your favorite route to drive at the Lab?
A: I like all the routes. The most challenging is the Blue Route because it has the most passengers, turns, wildlife and obstacles. However, the view is incredible. Definitely the Blue Route is my favorite. I like training other drivers, and I’m certified to conduct Behind-The-Wheel training
