Jeanine Holmlund is leading the Lab in weekly sessions to get us moving again after spending way too much time in Zoom meetings. These sessions will not only prepare you for the Lab’s 43rd annual Runaround, which will be virtual this year on Oct. 23 at noon but help you set wellness goals for the next few months.
Jeanine is a track and cross country coach at an East Bay high school and is the club vice president of Lake Merritt Joggers & Striders Club. (She recently stepped down to have more fun with us!). She has led track, trail, and road running programs and is ready to take on both the experienced and novice walkers and runners at the Lab. Her sessions for true couch potatoes will be on Tuesdays at 12:30 p.m. starting Sept. 15 through Nov. 3. Those with more experience can talk with Jeanine on Thursdays at 12:30, Sept. 17 through Nov. 5. Everyone, no matter their level of experience of either walking or running, is invited to all sessions. Get your energy level up and train to do the Runaround!
Elements: Jeanine, can you really help those sitting on Zoom calls since March get moving again?
Jeanine: Absolutely! You don’t need to run. It starts with walking. I love helping beginners overcome their inhibitions and get out the door! You are walking to wellness for yourself and your loved ones so don’t put it off. Take this opportunity to have fun with the virtual Runaround and start by walking. I’m here to help you. Join me for the Tuesday sessions.
Elements: What about those who have run before? What type of sessions will you have for them?
Jeanine: The sessions on Thursdays will be for those who have had a bit of experience running and may have more detailed questions on technique, shoes, setting a pace in a longer run, and fueling up before and after a race. Beginners are welcome as well since we won’t be discussing any running secrets.
Elements: How can these sessions help people manage their stress at home?
Jeanine: Everyone is caught up in additional responsibilities, but it is essential that, just as they say in the emergency instructions on a plane, you need to put your mask on first. Even stretching once an hour is an improvement over sitting at your screen all day. Use these sessions to set wellness goals for the whole family. Your family members are welcome to join in and maybe even get some PE credit for walking with you. See you soon!
