The East Bay Economic Development Alliance (East Bay EDA) has chosen Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory as the winner of its 2021 Legacy Award for this year’s East Bay Innovation Awards. This annual ceremony celebrates and honors the extraordinary companies and organizations that contribute to the East Bay’s legacy of innovation and unique assets.
The East Bay EDA is a public-private partnership focused on promoting regional leadership and collaborative solutions to address East Bay challenges that include workforce, transportation, housing, and energy. The Lab has been a member for many years, and the East Bay EDA has been a strong advocate for the Lab at the state and federal levels. One recent example is when the East Bay EDA signed onto a letter addressed to the White House and congressional leaders, voicing their support for funding for the Department of Energy’s Office of Science in the President’s FY22 budget request and through the congressional appropriations process.
More than 200 East Bay companies and organizations were nominated for the 2021 East Bay Innovation Awards to showcase the best examples of innovation in product development, services and processes. This list was narrowed down to twenty finalists in ten competitive categories, including Nelumbo, Inc., a former Cyclotron Road company, as a finalist in the clean tech category.
The Legacy Award recognizes organizations with a history of groundbreaking innovation in the East Bay that have made significant contributions as a long-standing generator of jobs and economic vitality in the region.
The Lab will be recognized and honored along with the other awardees at a virtual ceremony on October 14. The virtual awards ceremony will be hosted by Scott McGrew of NBC Bay Area and will feature entertainment from local artists and raffle prizes, so save the date!
